UP Goodwill Steam Tour Has Several Colorado Stops

Union Pacific has announced an extensive tour of the southwest US to participate in state-wide centennial celebrations for New Mexico and Arizona. Since Colorado is currently located between those two locations and Cheyenne, perpetual home of UP Steam, several stops have been scheduled in Colorado to give folks a chance to come out and see Union Pacific 844.

My son's first real experience with the 844 was at age 7, standing at a grade crossing south of Colorado Springs only 3 feet outside the "danger zone" of debris and steam. The engine blew through that unprotected crossing at close to 70 miles per hour! His heart in his ears, he said he couldn't believe something that big and heavy could go that fast. Even though he wasn't a railfan, he immediately understood the appeal of railroads and especially main line steam.
